good web

David CraneGameLife of Wired just posted some nice images of David Crane, creator of Pitfall!, in front of a running Atari. Since my game Skatefall! came out, anything promoting David Crane peaks my interest. It’s good to see these guys getting their due.

WhitingMy buddy Snacks sent this link over. An artist from the + gallery in Denver, Colorado named Michale Whiting created this sculpture at the left, “handplant” and many other cool things.

Nintendo street campaign“Wii’ll not forget” is a street campaign that re-creates classic game images with post-it notes. On the back of each note is a message about the Wii Virtual Console. This is not the first pixelated post-it note experiment, but good ideas will get copied, always.

retrostickers.comOld school skate heads always need a good place to reminisce – retroskatestickers.com is the place.

Pinball emulatorPinMAME is a pinball emulator along the lines of MAME, the arcade emulator. PinMAME does it’s best to re-create the pinball experience, and like MAME they work right from the original ROMs.

SpotcovrI had this same idea some time ago. I even bought a domain name. But, I didn’t act on it. The idea is pretty simple – a web site that users can log into and post their favorite skate spots. Spotcovr did it, and they built a powerful site, that users can log into and edit, post, and show spots the world.

Simpson’s Avatar Maker + Photoshop

John Freeborn <–Current • RISD years–> John Freeborn - the RISD years

Everybody and their moma has seen this already but the Simpson’s avatar maker is awesome. There are some minor missing bits – no accessories, no toys (skateboard, yo-yo maybe, or a walkman), and the hair styles are a tad lacking. I did two, the 2nd one, John Freeborn “the RISD years” has been edited with ole Photoshop.

I Love Patterns, you can too

Pattern Sample Pattern Sample Pattern Sample

Pattern Fun Pattern Swatches

I love patterns, repeat patterns and if you add some pixels then I’m all set. I needed to create a small hash mark repeat pattern recently and I got way distracted and created over 50 pixel repeat patterns. I decided to share them with the world. You can download the illustrator files here. There are also some simple instructions on how to alter the patterns, change them, and colorize them. Download the CS3 version, the CS2 version, the Illustrator 10 version, or for you old school heads, the EPS version.

Amy S Kauffman documentary + activision font

Time flies when you are working too much and not having enough fun. The spring weather has arrived on the east cost and I couldn’t be happier about it. So, to celebrate, I’ve migrated my email from Entourage to Apple Mail. So much fun – I can’t even explain. The transition has been pretty smooth so far. Some minor glitches slowed me down, but the apple discussion groups moved me ahead. Now all I need to do is sort throught the 20,000 emails! There are some creative things happening. The video above links to a documentary about my wife – Amy S. Kauffman. AND – in the fall of last year I did a little collaboration with typeology.comActivision came from the partnership – and now you can download and type away in 8-bit glory.

Big Kids/Little Kids – January 19th!

Big Kids/Little Kids
A long time ago I started work on a book. Finally “Big Kids/Little Kids” will hit the streets on January 19th, 2007! The book is about the Philadelphia emerging art scene, but isn’t confined to just Philadelphia. The book features artists who have been influenced by and who have influenced the scene. The book focuses on 4 galleries (SPACE1026, 1Pixel, 222gallery, and Spector) and the artists who’ve shown in these places. There are too many great people to name them all, and you can see the full list and diagram here. (But to name drop a few: Shepard Fairey, Jim Houser, Barry McGee, Rich Jacobs, Chris Johansen, Ryan McGinness, Brian Ralph, Andrew Jeffrey Wright, and many more) So, pre-order now and get it before the stores. –> Buy Now!

MEW Grand Opening – Saturday

Mew Gallery Logo MEW Gallery, front window
Mew Gallery, inside Mew Gallery, looking back
Mew Gallery is having their grand opening this Saturday. If you are going to be in the Philadelphia area you should come by. Lauren and Carolynne have been hard at work for months getting this place toghether and it’s looking good. MEW will have artist made goods from mostly Philadelphia based artisans: clothes, jewelry, prints, toys, dog scarves, and much much more. There is also an art gallery, with many good shows in the works. These photos are from last week, so you’ll notice some rough edges, but don’t worry. On Saturday there will be food and fun. Oh, and I did the logo and website. Go on Saturday, buy something and support the good works.
