GoodandEviL “Promotional Video” – part 6: Don Kahler, aka “Crazy Don”
Posted by jfx in goodandevil, movies & video, skateboarding on May 29th, 2007
The clear highlight of the GoodandEviL skateboards video “Promotional Video” circa 1995 or so, is the Don Kahler part. “Crazy Don”, as he is known in the Philadelphia regiion, does his skateboard trickery with the aid of a bicycle innertube screwed into his deck. Some people might call this cheating, we came to learn that this was just Don’s way. Spots include: Reading skatepark (Magic), Providence, and more. Music: Best of Saturday Night Live: Eddie Murphy, the 5th Beatle

This is clearly the part you’ve all been waiting for. My part. The best part about having your own company, GoodandEviL skateboards, my company, is that you can sponsor yourself. The video, titled “Promotional Video” was made in 1995 or so. Spots around Providence, Rhode Island. Music: Dag Nasty, Can I Say: Simple Minds

There was also a sister clothing company that Andrew Jeffrey Wright and Ben Woodward (who with me also co-founded SPACE1026 in Philadelphia) created called Hole Proof. Part 4 is a Hole Proof ad, created by those two manical geniuses. GoodandEviL skateboards and Hole Proof should have ruled the earth. We made a video, titled “Promotional Video” in 1995 or so. This was filmed in my bathroom, in downtown Providence, Rhode Island.

GoodandEviL skateboards was a little off at all times. I really wanted to make a freestyle board. At this time freestyle was taboo. Mullen had taken up street and no one mentioned the word freestyle. I was lucky enough to find Terry Synnott, he filmed his entire part for “Promotional Video” in one day. Music: Cannonball Adderly

Spots include West Philadelphia, the western suburbs, Drexel, UPenn, ZT Maximun is Cambridge, Mass, Reading PA skatepark, and more. In the intro section you will see Tom Maher, Jesse, Jerry Rowe, Shepard Fairey, my brother Andrew Freeborn, and myself. | Back on November 17th, at Minnow, there was an opening for the show “Skate to School” which is a benefit show for the Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship. The opening was fun, and the boards have and are being auctioned off on eBay. Click on in and donate for a good cause. More pictures of the show –> here |
A few weeks back I got an email from Crazy Don about his final project for his video production degree. He was tasked to create a video profile. Don enlisted the help of Dave Delaney (for these photos and some video help i imagine) and the result is pretty damn amazing. You can watch the video on youTube–>watch video. Or you can view some more photos–>here
Thursday night at the Art Institue of Philadelphia, the opening of Re:Construction went down. Amy S. Kauffman and Andrew Jeffrey Wright were the stars of the show. See some more photos–>here
